Ahimsa House, Georgia's only non-profit organization dedicated to helping the human and animal victims of domestic violence across the state reach safety together, is run by a team of volunteers with very busy schedules. Ahimsa House needed a streamlined approach to keeping their site up-to-date without requiring complex new tools to be learned.
Working with the site's designer at S.R. Walker Designs, Extra-U rebuilt the existing site for the Atlanta based non-profit using Drupal. As part of the process, we looked at addressing one of the organization's most pressing needs, which was how best to spread the word on the site about upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Ahimsa House was already using a Google Calendar as an internal tool for keeping track of upcoming events, so we tied into that calendar's RSS feed to import those events to the Ahimsa site. Now, anybody with access to the calendar can update the website without the need to learn new tools. When a specific event needs more elaborate editing, Ahimsa House can use the friendly "What-you-see-is-what-you-get" online editor we implemented within Drupal to upload images and related files, and to make copy changes.
We also made sure that every page on the new Ahimsa House website had SEO-friendly URLs, and that the pages validate as standard XHTML, while also implementing Google Analytics so that the organization can better gauge how well its site is performing for visitors.
